Argyle Easter Wreath

I decided to do Easter my own way this year.  I'm not into the light pastel colors plus they don't really fit into our decor.  When I went to the craft store, I decided to use darker tones of the colors that would be 'traditionally' Easter- pink, blue, green and purple.

I stuck to a yarn base and embellished it with some great felt flowers that I'll show how to make below.  I'm loving the non-traditional feel of my Easter mantel.

After all, shouldn't you love the decorations you live with day in and day out?

Stay tuned for my tutorials on the eggs and bunny silhouette.

My Results:
2 coordinating yarn colors
Felt (I used 4 sheets- 1 of each color)
Wreath base
Glue gun
Straight pins
Scissors
Needle and thread

1. Wrap your base in the yarn and secure with a pin or hot glue.

 2. Outline an egg for your felt cutouts.  My cutouts were egg shaped but you could do any shape.

3. Cut out 2 eggs from each color- total of 8 felt egg shapes.

4. Pin the eggs down with a straight pin.  These will be removed after the second color yarn is applied.

5. Underneath one of the eggs, attach the 2nd color yarn with a straight pin.

6. Wrap the yarn around the wreath in one direction.

7. Adhere the end under the same egg shape from above.

8. Repeat steps 6-7 going the opposite way with the yarn.  You want to see a criss cross pattern.

9. Remove the straight pins from the egg shapes.

10. Glue your felt flowers to the wreath. The tutorials for the felt flowers are below.

For the flowers I did two techniques.  Below are both of them.

Looped Flower
1.  Lay out a 2" piece of felt.

2. Fold in half.

3. Cut slits making sure to not cut all the way down to the bottom.

4. Roll the felt.

5. Secure the flower by using a needle and thread.

Cut Flower
1. Lay out a 2" piece of felt.

2. Instead of folding, just cut the felt from right to left not cutting all the way through.

3. Repeat steps 4-5 from the looped flower.

  1. Your easter mantle is so sweet! I love the slightly brighter colours rather then the usual pastels. Nice job on the wreath too!

    1. Thanks for stopping by. I'm not a pastel type of gal so the deeper tones work more into our style.
