Sister Accessories

My 3.5 year old loves to wear the same thing as her 19 month sister.  I've never been a huge fan of having my girls dress alike but if they request it, I'll oblige.  Instead of buying everything the same, I'd rather coordinate small things such as their shoes, a shirt or hair accessories.  For Easter, my mother in law bought them the most adorable dresses which matched.  Instead of buying two of the same hair accessories, I decided to make ones that coordinated but weren't the same.  Let me tell you, so much cheaper and I could give each girl what I know they'll wear.  My 3.5 year old is into headbands and my 19 month old will only (sometimes) keep clips in her hair.  The 'pin' I followed was really easy and you can customize the technique with the fabric, embellishments, or how you cut the fabric.  I think coordinating hair accessories will stay around a while until my 3.5 year old realizes she doesn't want to look like her younger sister :)

1. Cut a strip of fabric.  Mine were 11" and 6" in length and about 4" wide since I folded it over.

2. To make the sewing easier, I ironed my fabric.

3. Fold your fabric width to width and iron so a defined crease is made.

4. Keep the fabric strip in half and stitch along the edge.

5. Make sure you always stitch through both layers of the fabric.

6. Pull your thread tight gathering you fabric.

7. Put the ends together and tuck them in the back.

 8. While your tread is still intact, sew on a button or embellishment to the front to cover up the gatherings.

9. Tie off the thread and cut.  Now you can decide where to put the embellishment.  I used both a headband and an alligator clip.

10. The girls enjoying their bows (or the Easter candy)!
